k’Pane’s shop at Coffs Central has a French flavour, reflecting many of the classic French treats the shop offers, like pain au chocolat, brioche and baguettes as well as breads, pastries, gourmet pies, cakes and tarts from panini and ciabatta, through duck, olive and mushroom pies to Isle of Skye cake (drenched with Drambuie) and melt-in-the-mouth French fruit flans.
k’Pane’s 24 strong team has French, German, Scottish, European and Australian bakers and their assistants include recent arrivals from Africa and people with disabilities, sourced through Key Employment.
Scrumptious cakes can be ordered for special occasions just call the day before & pick up a delectable treat!
Any bread unsold at k’Pane at the end of the day is turned into breadcrumbs for other retail and wholesale food processing businesses or donated to the Salvation Army and church soup kitchens.“K’Pane feeds a lot of families in town,” Bret said.
The shop began in 2006 when the baker and chef made a few sourdough loaves in his spare time and sold them at Coffs Harbour markets to earn some extra cash and kept expanding from there.
“At the time my main passion was for surfing, but it evolved into a passion for bread,” Bret said. He retains his interest in surfing but these days often spends his spare time fishing off the rocks at Sawtell or out at sea in his boat.
